My most recent work 'Out of the Ashes' engages with ideas around time and mortality. I am attempting to capture those fleeting moments when the ego-self vanishes and there is a pause between suffering and action, between growth and decay. One is a part of the boundlessness of the natural world. There is a stillness, a haunting tranquillity and a visceral response to the power of nature.

I explore these ideas through engagement with trace. As a photographer and printmaker my process begins outside, photographing fragments and traces of the natural world. The photographs are blown up until they are pushing the limits of focus. Sometimes when it seems appropriate my work remains in the digital. However, more often than not these photographic images are processed through to print. This is partly due to a preference for the haptic and engagement with materiality, but also because printmaking adds a second layer of abstraction and distortion. The ambiguity of the image has increased. There is some recognition but also a sense of not really knowing. This ambiguity is important to me as I wish to facilitate the viewer having the space to question and engage.
